DevSecOps for IBM i
Monday May 19, 2025 11:15am - 12:15pm PDT
Security is a universal concern nowadays. How can we automatically verify that any new programming changes to native IBM i code meet your security requirements and follow best practices. We will talk about automating code scanning for less secure functions based on your requirements. We will also talk about checking object attributes during the deployment cycle to control adopting authority. The goal is to automate these checks so that they are consistent and there are no surprises after a promotion. We can use open source tools and in house business function or use commercial packages, but the key is automation so the checks happen every time.

Keep your source code close and your artifacts closer
Monday May 19, 2025 5:05pm - 5:25pm PDT
So you moved your IBM i source code to git but what about your artifacts? It seems like they should be hosted somewhere...into an artifact repository perhaps? If you agree with this statement, then this short session may be of interest to you. Through the use of Jenkins and an artifact repository like Sonatype Nexus or JFrog Artifactory, discover why it may be a good idea to build once, store the result and deploy it many times, to ensure deployment consistency and traceability.

Optimize Code Review through Automation, DevOps Style
Wednesday May 21, 2025 8:00am - 9:00am PDT
Peer code  review has great benefits but is often not fully formalized because it can be labor intensive. Often due to limited resources peer code review is limited to more complex changes. DevOps promises automation to reduce the overhead but how can it work on the IBM i? This session will discuss automation at a high level and dig deeper into the tools available for peer review, open source and otherwise, that can be used on IBM i source. We'll cover the use at the developer level with linting where the code can be previewed and at the workflow process level where it is automated. The automation tools discussed will be pull/merge requests and pipeline tools like SonarCube etc. We will also cover the limitations of IDEs and tools and how that impacts automation.

How to have your cake and eat it too in the DevOps world
Wednesday May 21, 2025 5:00pm - 6:00pm PDT
Often, trying out something new in DevOps means messing with the stuff that’s already working well. Or asking a vendor to build a custom improvement to your DevOps environment, which could take months. But trying something new quickly and keeping the tried-and-true running don’t have to be mutually exclusive.

DevOps Overview
Thursday May 22, 2025 11:15am - 12:15pm PDT
DevOps is not just about tooling, but rather it is a changed mindset that encompasses Development, Operations, and users/stakeholders as well. This session aims to not only answer many of the high-level questions you might have about DevOps, but also to provide concrete examples of implementing DevOps in IBM i organizations.
Learn about some of the common roadblocks that many organizations have when trying to move to DevOps, and some of the steps that can be taken to overcome those obstacles. Most importantly, this presentation should help to convince you that DevOps is not a passing fad that is going to take resources away from your "real" projects, but rather it is a fundamental shift that will make development faster, more efficient, more responsive, and (most importantly, to many) less costly with minimal investment.

End-to-end development: Modern IBM i development stack
Thursday May 22, 2025 11:15am - 12:15pm PDT
In this talk, we’ll look at everything from development tools, build systems, to deployment methods. Finally there is a complete open source stack from IBM to use git and easily deploy ILE code (RPG, COBOL, you name it!) and this will cover them. We will look at the end-to-end lifecycle for IBM i applications when stored in git - all the way from the developers, to the end users machine automatically.
